About the Founder & CEO
Balvinder (Bal) Gill is the Founder and CEO of Chella Investments, a family office shaped by a lifetime of diverse experience across retail, hospitality, IT, finance, and entrepreneurship. His journey began in early family retail operations, where he learned the fundamentals of customer service, discipline, and commercial instinct long before stepping into formal business roles.
Balvinder studied Mathematics and Computer Science, building a foundation of analytical thinking that continues to guide his investment philosophy today. He went on to work extensively in IT, developing both technical capability and refined soft skills across corporate environments. His professional development included XML programming at Wadham College, Oxford, and a year of ACCA accountancy, giving him a strong command of financial systems, compliance, and structured decision‑making.
Before founding Chella Investments, Balvinder also built a career in hospitality, becoming a recognised chef and publican — experiences that strengthened his leadership, resilience, and ability to operate under pressure while managing people, operations, and customer expectations.
His entrepreneurial path has not been linear, and that is precisely what gives it strength. Balvinder is one of the many individuals who lived through the Post Office scandal, an experience that deepened his commitment to ethical, transparent, and fair business practices. It remains a defining pillar of how he leads, invests, and partners today.
Chella Investments reflects this philosophy. Named after his ancestral village in Punjab — and echoing the Sanskrit meaning of “disciple” — the firm embodies Balvinder’s belief that one must remain a lifelong student of markets, business, and life.
